Law Day 2008

BBA Celebrates Law Day by Honoring the Community Service of its Members

Law Day was first established by Presidential proclamation in 1958 as a "special day of celebration by the American people in appreciation of their liberties and the affirmation of their loyalty to the United States of America." Law Day has since evolved into a day that honors our legal system and those who work to uphold it. The Birmingham Bar Association celebrates the 50thAnniversary of Law Day by honoring the public service and volunteerism of its 4000 plus attorneys. These men and women give their time and energy in countless ways to our community. There is not a civic organization in this area that is not aided in some way by a member of our Birmingham Bar Association. Our members serve as volunteers, mentors, and leaders in charitable and civic groups across the Birmingham area. Whether they serve as scout leaders, Sunday school teachers, fundraisers for breast cancer research, animal rescue volunteers, supporters of the arts, little league coaches, or advocates for the homeless, these attorneys uphold freedom and justice as they lead good lives and give back to their community.

As a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, I couldn't be prouder of the tremendous impact this fine group of attorneys has had and continues to have on the lives of so many. I think you, too, should be proud of this group and of your Birmingham Bar Association.

With best regards on this 50th anniversary,

Lee R. Benton
President, Birmingham Bar Association
