The Probate Section of the Birmingham Bar Association was formed in late 2011 to promote fellowship and learning among members of the Birmingham Bar that regularly handle Probate issues and practice in the Probate Court. Since its formation, the Section has grown to over 180 members and is one of the largest sections in the Birmingham Bar Association.
Amongst its educational programs, the Section hosts an annual full day CLE in December which is free to section members. The Section also organizes multiple “Lunch and Learn” programs throughout the year which are held at the BBA offices. These programs are not formal CLEs, but are instead designed to focus on fellowship and include informal presentations on various topics of interest to Probate practitioners. The Section has also established a ListServ which provides its members an avenue to communicate with other members regarding issues encountered in everyday practice.
The section holds many social functions throughout the year which provide its members a chance to network and visit with colleagues. Annual social events include the “Probate Night at the Barons,” a family event when members get to meet each other’s families and enjoy dinner and a game, and a “Day of the Dead” celebration in late October.
Membership is open to any member of the Birmingham Bar Association. Annual Probate Section dues are $20.00 in addition to Regular dues. For more information please contact Beth McElroy at (205) 271-1100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
