Elder Law Information

INTRODUCTION

The Elder Law Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association created this website.  The purpose is to inform the public, and lawyers who do not specialize in the field, of some of the major areas of Elder Law.  The information is intended to be basic, not exhaustive.  You are encouraged to seek advice of a competent lawyer in this area should you need representation or counsel.

The website includes information on:  Probating an Estate, Nursing Home Care - Medicaid Eligibility, Medicare and Medicaid, Alabama Family Trust, Living Wills, Powers of Attorney, Conservatorship and Guardianships.  The information is for educational purposes only, it is not legal advice.

Members of the 2009 Elder Law Committee who initiated this program are:  C. Larry Sparks, Co-Chair, Roderick J. Barge, K. Dee Hutsler, III, Carolyn H. Moore, William G. Nolan, Jackie Trimm and John F. Whitaker.  My thanks to them for their work on this important project.  Understanding that this is the beginning of our project, we encourage any interested lawyers specializing in the field to offer their suggestions and papers for addition to the site.
