Serving on a committee provides an excellent platform to connect with fellow attorneys, refine your skills, and make a positive impact. We strongly encourage you to consider joining a committee in 2026. Participating in these committees can be incredibly rewarding, allowing you to develop your leadership abilities while contributing to the advancement of the legal profession. Birmingham Connection Committee |
Helps to strengthen the BBA’s relationship with and presence in the Birmingham community; promotes community events that might be of interest to BBA members; considers impactful ways that the BBA can get involved with Birmingham events; engages in public service projects. |
Continuing Legal Education Committee |
Prepares, develops and produces CLE programming throughout the year, which is a crucial member benefit. |
Court Liaison Committee (State and Federal) |
Serves as a liaison between the BBA and Birmingham-area courts and fosters a collegial relationship between the Bench and the Bar; coordinates with the Presiding Judge (State) and Chief Judge (Federal) regarding areas of support that they need and helps to identify or provide appropriate resources. |
Diversity and Inclusion Committee |
Facilitates inclusiveness throughout the BBA and the legal profession by coordinating programs and discussions about diversity and inclusion and by interfacing with BBA Sections and other Committees. |
Domestic Relations and Family Law Committee |
Identifies issues in the practice of domestic relations and family law and facilitates programs and discussions to address these issues. |
Entertainment Committee |

Is responsible for planning, cooking, and clean-up for two large social events each year - the BBA annual summer Picnic and the year-end holiday Party. If you enjoy cooking, have experience hosting parties, and aren’t afraid of hard work, this committee could be a good fit for you. |
Fee Arbitration Committee |
Acts as an arbitration board to hear and rule on fee disputes between attorneys and their clients or other attorneys. |
Future Leaders Forum Committee |
Organizes the annual Future Leaders Forum, which is the BBA’s leadership development program for attorneys who have been in practice for 3‑8 years. |
Grievance Committee |
Investigates and reports to the BBA Executive Committee on complaints filed with the Alabama State Bar against Birmingham area attorneys. |
Health and Wellness Committee |
Explores topics related to lawyer wellness and presents programs to educate and create awareness of the importance of health and wellness, both physical and mental. |
Immigration Committee |

In House / Corporate Committee |
Offers opportunities for members who work for a corporation (in a corporate legal department or elsewhere in a company) to get more involved through networking events and CLE programs focused on pertinent issues. |
Membership Committee |

Mentoring Committee |
Implements the BBA’s Mentoring Program, which pairs newly admitted lawyers with more seasoned lawyers for help in navigating the practice of law. |
Scholarship Committee |
Reviews and evaluates law school scholarship applications from area law schools and makes recommendations to the BBA Executive Committee for award. |
